When considering the wider picture, I have to agree with Derek on this one, a large glob of wet paint will safely seal a sample point, and the potential fibre release would be miniscule. There would be far more release of fibres whilst actually taking the sample. I think we were potentially entering the realms of pretend science on this one. For friable ACM, shouldn’t the material already be wet whilst sampling, what difference would paint make? Perhaps UKAS ought to focus more on the incompetent surveyors out there who routinely miss asbestos, and the companies who cover up for them, as far more exposures arise from this than a paint brush.
