“Ashing” covers multiple options ranging from setting fire to the sample to use of a flame suppressant in a temperature controlled furnace. Beware of the nasties that can be emitted by some matrices – it is not just asbestos that can cause harm! This is a method of last resort to show absence of asbestos.
